Why POUFF uses an 80/20 chalk blend
POUFF's formula is 80% chunky texture, 20% fine texture, both 100% pure magnesium carbonate. Here's what each part is actually doing, laid out plainly.
The 20% fine
This is what coats your hands the moment you chalk up. Fine powder is already broken down as small as it gets, so it applies evenly and dries your hands fast, with no waiting around for it to work in.
The 80% chunky
This is the part that gives you texture you control rather than a fixed, pre-broken-down powder. Rub it between your fingers and you decide how far to work it down, depending on what you actually need in the moment. Sweatier session, work it finer. Prefer more texture in your hand, or don't want a cloud of dust on every hold, leave it chunkier. Need an actual chunk to mark a hold you're trying to remember, that requires a piece with enough material intact to leave a real mark, which fine powder alone can't do.

Session (150g)
Session is an 80/20 blend, built to outlast. Fine powder coats your hands on the first dip, so the grip is there immediately. The chunky ...
Why not just use one texture?
Straight fine powder coats fast but has nothing left to release after the first few moves. Straight chunky takes longer to coat evenly to begin with. Blending the two solves both problems at once: fast initial coverage from the fine portion, and lasting, adjustable texture from the chunky portion.
What does this mean for an actual session?
In practice, it means less re-chalking than a mostly-fine chalk requires, and more control over texture than a mostly-chunky chalk gives you. You're not locked into whatever came out of the bag, you're deciding, chalk-up to chalk-up, based on how your hands actually feel.
Where it's packed
POUFF ships in a hard, resealable jar, mixed and packed in Vancouver, BC. The container matters here too, since a sealed jar limits how much humid air reaches the chalk between sessions, which is part of what keeps the texture usable over time.
